An IT operations realignment streamlines data retrieval for a regional bank

A mid-sized regional bank sought to streamline its IT processes after determining that internal IT support for the business lines was slow, costly and inefficient. When called upon to evaluate the firm’s IT function, the Navaera Strategic Consulting team conducted a thorough workflow mapping and identified structural inefficiencies that caused excessive delays and created unnecessary expense. Navaera designed a plan to re-engineer and realign the bank’s IT workflow and communication processes to enable better, faster response from the IT department.  By reassigning IT liaison staff to individual business lines, the bank consolidated twelve separate units into eight departments.  To support the redesign, the bank deployed a data warehouse that enabled operations staff to access data and generate business intelligence reports quickly, efficiently and directly, further reducing the need for IT involvement.

 

Taking AML Compliance to the next level

A global investment bank takes AML training to the next level

A large multi-national investment bank engaged Navaera Strategic Consulting to implement a comprehensive AML training program for its staff located in eight countries on three continents. A key objective of the program was to ensure that AML investigation procedures were consistent and relevant across the institution’s global footprint.  The Navaera consulting team developed a framework for investigative protocols and procedures, and created training materials and case studies to train staff throughout the bank to identify AML red flags. The investigative framework included steps, processes, tools and technologies for investigation and follow-up procedures for situations that call for further investigation, ongoing monitoring and/or reporting to a financial intelligence unit.   The training program enabled the bank to achieve full compliance and consistency in protocols and effectiveness across all of its jurisdictions. 

 

Monitoring and managing risk in a dynamic environment

Navaera created a unique risk management and transaction monitoring program

The New York branch of a renowned European-based corporate and private bank engaged Navaera Strategic Consulting to design and implement a risk management and transaction monitoring program.  Because of its unique product and service offerings and its range of customers in emerging and developed regions, the bank was challenged to fully understand how its products were being used and to effectively monitor for AML, fraud and misuse. After risk scenarios were identified and losses quantified, the bank engaged Navaera to codify and develop algorithms to analyze risks in available data.  The success of the project not only enabled effective compliance and reduced losses, but also enhanced the bank’s operational efficiency.

Controlling credit card abuse

An anti-fraud program cuts losses from credit card fraud dramatically

A prominent online retailer was struggling to stem inventory shrinkage from fraudulent credit card transactions. Beyond basic card validation, the merchant had no established protocols to monitor transactions, verify purchasers’ identities or determine whether credit cards used to procure merchandise had been lost, skimmed or stolen.  Navaera Product Services designed and developed a comprehensive anti-fraud program that incorporated fraud controls at point of purchase; transaction monitoring for unusual or suspicious transactions; risk rating based on fraud sensitivity algorithms, and a strategy to track names and addresses that had been associated with fraud in the past. The anti-fraud program enabled the merchant to monitor card use effectively and proactively stem losses from credit card misuse.

A diversified manufacturer of medical devices engaged Navaera Product Services to design an organizational development framework that would enable junior staff to rapidly and effectively acquire job skills, access resources and develop a network of colleagues within the organization.  The firm had hired a cadre of materials engineers right out of college and sought to introduce them to the company’s knowledge repertoire and integrate them into the firm’s culture as quickly as possible. A global electronics manufacturing firm based in Asia engaged Navaera Product Services to conduct an analysis of its production techniques and recommend process improvements.
